As the Languedoc is one of the largest wine producing areas in Europe, not surprisingly there are lots of vineyards and some truly outstanding wines wines to try, many not available outside France. Mas de Ametlier is one of the Caves closest to the house, being approx 5 mins away (look directly west from the upper terrace for the vineyards on the slopes on the opposite side of the valley). If you don't find them open, the Sica Caroux shop or Intermarché outside Hérépian sometimes stocks their wines.

But you could begin a days wine tour by exploring the Orb Valley moving down to Faugères visting vineyards such as Mas Olivier, Château Grézan, Domaine des Schistes, then across to St. Chinian and St. Saturnin. Most towns also have a Cave Co-operative, where local growers take grapes which are blended to produce reasonable table wines for a couple of Euros. (as with most things in life, the more you pay the better the quality).

If your a fan of a good glass of fizz, further afield down towards Carcasonne is the town of Limoux, where the 'Cremant de Limoux’ and 'Blanquette de Limoux' are produced. The Sica Caroux shop or Intermarché also sell these but its well worth the drive down anyway just to experience the beautiful countryside en route.
